Rescue Me ID: 17-02-21-00153Katie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Katie. This loving girl was a stray found in Carroll County several months ago. No owner came forward and the finders couldn't keep her. We placed her in a temporary foster home to keep her safe and get her health assessed. The foster's schedule is no longer able to accommodate a dog, so Katie has to move along. We are looking for a foster or a forever home for this sweet senior. As a best guess Katie is an older girl, maybe around 12 years old. She is likely a border collie/poodle mix who is one of the sweetest dogs ever. She really is so precious to us. She greets everyone with a smile and the wagging of her stubby tail. She gets ... (Read More)along great with other dogs of all sizes (low energy preferred). We think she would also be fine with cats. Since Katie is older, we recommend older kids who are gentle. Katie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. She is a little stiff in her joints at times, but still loves to go for short walks or to explore a fenced in yard. Katie is urinary incontinent at times with some small dribbles. We are working on finding a medication that will work for her. In the meantime, we are using washable diapers for when she is indoors. Katie doesn't mind a bit and has been cooperative through everything. If you would like to offer Katie a foster or foster-to-adopt home (while we figure out her meds) please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $100. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-21-00151Roux (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Roux. This pretty girl will steal your heart. She is such a sweet, gentle, loving soul. Her only issue is that she has decided that living with other dogs stresses her out. For this reason, Roux is looking for a new forever home where she can take center stage and be loved as much as she deserves. Roux is a 4-year-old cattle dog mix. What is she mixed with? We don't really know. She was found with her litter mates as pups without either parent present. Roux weighs about 50 pounds and has longer legs than your typical cattle dog. Whatever the mix is, it has created a stunning beauty. Roux loves all humans, but hasn't really ever been ... (Read More)around children. Older children would be fine. Younger children *might* be fine too, but we aren't much for taking risks, so we will say the kids should be 7-ish years old or older. As we mentioned above, Roux does not want to live with other dogs. She can walk past them on leash without issue; she just doesn't want to share her space with other canines. We do not know how she is with cats. Roux is pretty medium energy. She does like to go for walks, but isn't much up for long car rides. Her favorite thing to do is to go running through the fenced in yard. Some days that's all of the exercise she needs. When she is in the house she is calm and loves to cuddle in your lap. Roux is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is also solidly housebroken. She has not been crated since she was a puppy and is trustworthy when unsupervised. If you would like to meet the beautiful Roux please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Boston Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Bella. This pretty girl is a 6-year-old, lanky Boston terrier mix. We aren't sure what she is mixed with, but she is taller and thinner than the typical Boston. She weighs about 30 pounds. Bella's owner was no longer able to care for her, resulting in Bella needing a new forever home. Bella is a sweet, affectionate girl who would love to have as much attention as you can give her. She has grown up around children and does well with everyone. she also used to live with another dog. She seems pretty keen to meet new dogs, perhaps she misses her buddy in her former home. We do not know how she is with cats, but we can do a meet and greet ... (Read More)with one if this is an important point. Bella loves to run but hasn't shown any sign of wanting to play with toys. She does knows how to sit on command and comes when called. She seems like a great balance of wanting to be active and wanting to chill. Bella must either have a fenced yard or be leashed at all times--she has a history of escaping front doors when given the opportunity Bella is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is housebroken, but we are not sure whether she has been crated in the past. If you are interested in meeting Bella, the first step is to complete the adoption application on our website. Please include any questions directly on the application in the comments section at the bottom. Bella's adoption fee is $150. http://www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting.html (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-14-00110Cecil (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Cecil. This handsome guy is a 6-year-old beagle/Brittany spaniel mix who looks like a 30-pound St. Bernard mix at some angles. He has been with the same family since he was a pup and has been very loved and well-cared for, including regular health exams at the vet (his teeth look great!). Until the addition of a human sibling, Cecil had always enjoyed an active lifestyle that included frequent hikes and jogs. Now that the family's life has gotten a bit busier, Cecil isn't getting as much attention and isn't adjusting to the change. Cecil is friendly and happy, but he needs just a moment to warm up to new people, especially in a new ... (Read More)environment. Once he is comfortable he will politely ask for a back scratch. Cecil is quite cuddly with his people and likes to be near them when watching TV or hanging out on the couch. Besides the adventurous activities, this active guy also LOVES tennis balls. In fact, tennis balls are life in his book. Cecil has been raised with other dogs and has shared his home with another dog his whole life. He often snuggles up with his canine sister, but he doesn't really show much interest in playing with her, mostly because his aforementioned love of tennis balls. He could probably be fine as a single dog getting all of the attention or with another dog who isn't looking for someone to romp and wrestle with. Cecil has also been raised around dog-savvy children and has never been nippy. He has never shared his home with a cat, but with a slow introduction he would probably be fine. He has hung out with indoor bunnies and been just fine. Cecil is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is also solidly housebroken. Although Cecil was crated as a pup, he is now very trustworthy when left in the home unsupervised. Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Smiley. This super duper adorable guy is one of the 17 dogs we took in from the hoarder case. He has been in foster care since October getting healthy and learning to be a regular dog. We are guessing that Smiley is one of the younger chihuahuas we received from this group and is around 8 years old. Not only do we think Smiley is special because he so incredibly cute and equally sweet and cuddly, but Smiley is also a three-legged baby who lets nothing stand in his way of being a regular guy. Smiley has been fostered with kids, cats, and dogs. He does well with all, but probably doesn't want too many of any to be in home all of the ... (Read More)time. He does great with kids. However, can be a little on edge if there's a lot of commotion over a long period of time. He is also great with all dogs. He definitely prefers dogs closer to his size to play or cuddle with. Speaking of cuddling--did we mention how snuggly this little guy is? Smiley is now neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Smiley needed an extensive dental, and as a result, no longer has any teeth. No worries, though, this guy still has an appetite! Smiley uses a belly band in the house for days when he is afraid to go out. Keep in mind, this guy didn't see much of the outside for 8 whole years! He is trustworthy not to chew things when left unattended. He is playful, but generally spends his days lounging around. If you would to meet our special little guy, please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $100. (Less)

Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Jenny. This pretty girl is a 1-year-old boxer who is exactly what people love about the breed--happy, friendly, goofy, and great with everyone. Jenny came to us with her 9 puppies when her owner couldn't/wouldn't take care of them any longer. Jenny is a smart girl who loves, loves, loves treats and will gladly perform for a tasty reward. We had her speaking on command in a matter of minutes because yummy treats were involved. Jenny is still a bit bouncy and needs to to learn not to jump on people to show her excitement. For this reason we think she would do best with kids who are steady on their feet and who won't be afraid of her ... (Read More)exuberance. Jenny seems to be comfortable with other dogs too. We don't yet know how she does with cats. Jenny is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is doing great keeping her kennel clean at the shelter. We think she would be housebroken in a home environment. She might also already be crate trained based on her good behavior being confined at the shelter. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Salim. This handsome guy with the giant noggin gets a lot of attention for all of the wrong reasons. Of course his good looks do turn a bunch of heads, but so do the scars on his head, face, and legs. Most people jump to the conclusion that he has been in a fighting ring, and that's just not the case. Salim is a lover, not a fighter, but he has unfortunately been attacked--hence the battle scars. Salim is a 1-year-old pit mix who weighs about 65 pounds (most of that is in his big ol' head). Salim's name means 'safe' in Arabic, and that's all we want this guy to be. When Salim was a puppy he had parvo and overcame that too; he is ... (Read More)resilient and tenacious. We know that there is a perfect home somewhere who will spoil him rotten. Salim is a cuddle baby with a fair amount of energy. He would love a home that enjoys cuddles and activity equally. Salim doesn't have great leash skills yet. However, he is treat motivated and will be fun to train. Salim does well with most dogs, but the attack from a while ago has rattled him some, but never where he is the aggressor. We do not know how he is with cats or small children. We think he would be fine with kids who are sturdy on their feet. Salim is housebroken and crate trained. We need a foster or foster-to-adopt home because we need to get Salim brought up to date on his vetting. He will be neutered, brought up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm tested once we have him placed. If you would like to help us help Salim please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $150 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-09-00347Boomer (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Boomer. This handsome guy is a young lab mix, maybe Australian shepherd or border collie. He might be 2 years old and weighs about 50 pounds. He is a friendly, happy guy, but be warned he is also full of energy. He loves to run through the play yard and play with toys. Boomer was adopted out about a year ago, but later wound up as a stray in Indianapolis. As the story unfolded we learned that Boomer had been passed around from his adopter to a couple of different homes before being picked up by animal control in Johnson County. Can you imagine what that does to a dog to bounce around so much in such a short amount of time? Boomer has ... (Read More)now been back at the shelter since November, and that's as far as he has got this time around. When people come to visit the shelter, Boomer gets really excited because he really wants to be with people. It doesn't always make a great impression, but that's the best he can do to hide his enthusiasm. Once Boomer has run off his energy he is quite the lap dog who wants to be rewarded or good behavior with many, many treats. Boomer does get along with other dogs, but he doesn't require a dog buddy. He is kind of afraid of cats. He definitely hasn't shown any interest to chase and slinks around them whenever the cross his path. Boomer needs older children because of his desire to bounce around and not realizing his size. A forever home for Boomer would ideally have a fenced yard to help him better burn off his energy while he learns some better leash manners. Boomer is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. He is housebroken and crate trained (at least he was in his adoptive first home). If he has gotten out of practice, he will surely catch on again very quickly. If you would like to help us help Boomer please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Cooper. Who doesn't love a young, spunky lab? This handsome guy is exactly that. He is a 2-year-old lab who is wonderful and an all-around great guy. He is an active guy who loves walks and who would benefit from a fenced yard or regular visits to the dog park. Sadly Cooper's primary caregiver is having some unexpected health issues and is no longer able to care for him. Cooper is great with kids. He has lived with toddlers and is very gentle with them. He has also lived with other dogs and has great social skills with them too. He might enjoy a playful dog buddy in his forever him, but as long as he gets regular visits with other ... He loves to play with people, balls, and toys. He has great house manners and knows some basic commands. Cooper is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-09-00343Mouse (male)

Black Mouth Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Mouse. This guy has spent his life on a chain with a dog house for shelter. He has never been fortunate enough to have a warm bed or a cozy lap to snuggle on. Sometimes life just isn't fair. When Mouse's owners skipped town, they dumped him off with the elderly grandpa. It was immediately apparent that Grandpa wasn't able to properly care for Mouse, and that's when a rescue was contacted who then asked us for help. We just had to say yes. Mouse is a mixed breed boy, perhaps a black mouth cur mix. He is about 2 or 3 years old, has a medium build, and has a bit of a weight issue. He should weigh about 50-60 pounds, but weighs about 65-70 ... (Read More)pounds. We tried so hard to get a full body picture, but he must have been feeling particularly shy that day because none of the full body pics turned out. Poor Mouse. Our handsome boy is the absolute sweetest who is excellent with kids and other dogs. We don't know about cats. Mouse doesn't seem to know many commands, but does really want to figure out what you want so that he can be rewarded with a treat. Did we mention that he has a weight problem? The good thing is that Mouse loves to run around in a fenced area--who wouldn't after having been chained up for years!?!? Although Mouse has a fair amount of energy (not hyper), he never has jumped on us. He bounces excitedly in our proximity, but never touching us. We would love to see Mouse go to a home who will treat him like a king. He's such a good boy and so deserving. He will probably need a couple of days to adjust to the great indoors, but we are confident he can do it. Already in boarding he has been very well behaved and keeps his kennel clean. Mouse is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Tanner. Isn't he a good-looking boy? Tanner is a 4-year-old-ish German shepherd mix whose story is a little long and a little complicated. The summary is this: Tanner was found as a stray, his owner was located, but his owner no longer wanted him. The finder who had been caring for Tanner contacted us and asked for help. The best we could do was place him boarding until a foster or forever home came along. That's where things currently stand. We are asking for a foster or forever home so that this perfect guy can leave boarding. Tanner is very friendly, happy, and good-natured. He gets along with other dogs, but gets a little nervous ... (Read More)in play groups--not aggressive, just nervous. We don't know how Tanner is with kids or cats. As for kids, we think he would be great with anyone who wants to give him a lot of love and attention. We were told that Tanner had been tied to a shed his whole life. If that is in fact the case, he is incredibly well adjusted. He knows several commands and listens very well. However, he will chew his leash if you don't watch him, and maybe that's his way of saying he won't tolerate being tied up anymore. It might also explain how he ended up as a stray. Tanner is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He was solidly housebroken at the finder's home and keeps his kennel perfectly clean. Someone somewhere loved this boy and taught him a lot. If you are interested in meeting Tanner please complete a required adoption application on our website. Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Ginger and Gabby. These sweet girls are 4-year-old pit/golden retriever mixes. They are a bonded pair of littermates who do not not know life apart. They are looking for a forever home together. And as their foster mom has reported, "Anybody would be lucky to have them. They are the sweetest and most loving four legged children ever." Although many ask whether they can be separated, but the answer is simply "No, they cannot." They depend on one another--they snuggle and play constantly with each other. Gabby is the larger, fluffier one of the two, weighing 65 pounds. Ginger weighs 55 pounds. They kind of gauge their ... (Read More)energy around yours. They can be ready to play at a moment's notice and really like to play ball in the yard. They also play with one another quite a bit. To the untrained ear it can sound pretty rough, but they are just loud and enthusiastic. When that's over, they are ready to hunker down and have some lazy time. But if you go to another room, the girls are coming with. Gabby and Ginger are good with other dogs for the most part. They don't seems to like dominant females though. Alpha males and non-dominant males or females are just fine. They are being fostered with other dogs and are doing well. Gabby and Ginger are fine with children, but we don't know how they are with cats. We suspect that cats wouldn't be such a good idea with them. Both dogs are spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped. They are solidly housebroken and crate trained. At the foster's house they stay together in a 5'x10' outdoor kennel inside the climate controlled garage while everyone is at work. When everyone is home, they are right where the action is and soaking up attention. They just want to love and to be loved. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Felicia and Dinky. These two adorable girls are looking for their forever home separately or together. They are currently being fostered together, and get along fabulously. However, they are not a bonded pair, and it is not a requirement they be adopted together. BUT wouldn't that be wonderful? Dinky the cute calico. She was a stray, but has proven herself to be a wonderful companion in her foster home. She is approximately 1-1/2 years old. Dinky is shy meeting new people, but once she gets to know you, there is nothing she likes more than a good belly rub. She gets along very well with dogs and other cats. Dinky also loves human ... You'll often catch her following her foster family around the house, although she isn't really a lap kitty. this pretty girl can be playful, but can also pass the afternoon watching out the window while hanging out on her cat tree. Dinky is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She uses the litter box faithfully and is an all-around great cat. Felicia is approximately 9 months old and oh so cute with her golden eyes and pink nose. She is a gentle girl with a calm and laid back personality. She also gets along with cats and dogs. In her playtime, her favorite toy is the ball on the circular track, which she plays with numerous times a day. She is equally happy relaxing with her human or cat companion. Felicia is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and is a faithful litter box user. She is truly an awesome kitten--young, but not overly rambunctious. He has not adjusted well to the changes and is need of a new home. Cecil was crate trained as a younger dog, but has not needed to be crated as an adult. He LOVES tennis balls and retrieving. Cecil is cuddly and would thrive in a home with another dog and a person who is active. He would be excellent at the dog park. Cecil is ... Chihuahua Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Snoopy. We thought we might need to spin this post to beg for sympathy for this guy because he isn't the conventional cute that adopters are often looking for. However, we think his uniqueness is exactly what makes him so stinkin' adorable. Snoopy is one of the last dogs to be pulled from the shelter from the hoarding case in mid-October. Now that we have him in foster care, it's almost painful to think that this awesome guy was passed over for so long. He is a 10-year-old chihuahua mix. We were told he was a fullblooded, but those long legs and larger than normal body (14 pounds!) makes it clear that he has more than chihuahua in in ... (Read More)his genes. We are guessing he is a Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound mix. Snoopy has an all-star personality that really has won us over. He gets along great with other dogs and has even been around larger dogs although dogs more his size are more his thing. Snoopy was introduced to cats at the shelter and was completely indifferent to them. Snoopy hasn't been around small kids with us, but he could do well with kids who are patient and gentle. Snoopy is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is using a belly band in his foster home when unsupervised and is doing great with it. He is crate trained and pretty quiet all around. Snoopy has also had some dental work done. If you would like to offer Snoopy a forever home please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $125. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-20-00146Ella (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Ella. This adorable girl is a 1-year-old boxer/lab mix. She was once a stray who was taken to safety and fostered by a great family until we could place her in a new home. She has spent the last two months with a family who loves her, but it has become more and more apparent that she has more confidence with another dog in the home. Ella is very sweet and very friendly. She is a medium energy dog who definitely needs a daily dose of exercise to keep her in check, but once she has burnt off her energy, she is pretty chill. In fact, when she crashes at night, she's out until you wake her in the morning. Since being placed in this home, ... (Read More)Ella has learned a lot about manners and will need to continue this training. As we mentioned before, Ella loves other dogs and would like a dog buddy her size or bigger. She isn't aggressive towards smaller dogs, but she isn't as interested in playing with them. She has spent a lot of time at daycare and the dog park. She gets really excited to be there and gets tired pretty quickly. It's a win for everyone! Ella is great with children although a lot of roughhousing makes her nervous. We're not sure if it's the noise or activity that concerns her. We don't know how she is with cats. Ella is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is solidly housebroken and prefers not to be crated. She has been trustworthy without the crate when unsupervised. The only flaw the cuddly girl has is her nervousness about some mundane things. Car rides and walks can be overwhelming for her, as can a lot of activity outside the house. We are working on lessening this stress for her and think adding a companion dog back into her life will make all of the difference. If you would like to meet sweet Ella please complete an adoption application at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $175. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-20-00141Brad Pitt (male)

American Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We might have to change this guy's name. When he first came to PawSwaP as a puppy, he looked like a pit mix pup with unique markings. Now that he has matured into a handsome young man, we see that he really isn't pit after all, but more likely American bulldog. Let us reintroduce to the guy we call Brad Pit. We'll keep the name for simplicity sake, even if it may no longer be the best suited for him. This ultra handsome guy is a 1-year-old amazing dog who was a stray, but found love and a foster home with the very people who rescued him. He is now a young adult and weighs about 70 pounds. Brad is a very friendly guy who loves making new ... (Read More)human friends. He greets everyone with a wagging tail, a big smile and a little bounce. When Brad was first found, he was emaciated and stressed. He had a brief encounter with another dog who isn't awesome with other dogs. Brad's reaction worried the foster family that he may not like other dogs. Last week, we consulted a behaviorist about Brad to figure out what kind of home he would succeed in. Well, come to find out, Brad loves other dogs! He loves to play and would do great with an active Buddy who isn't overly dominant. He showed no signs of aggression and was really relaxed even when a herd of dogs was barking at him begging for his attention. As for cats, this appears to be an extremely new concept for him. He will need to be guided around appropriate play with a kitty. He kind of wants to tackle a cat the way he does other dogs. We're guessing that most cats won't love that play style. Brad is fine with kids; just keep in mind that he a is a big boy who sometimes forgets his size. Not only is Brad fun and funny, he is also a lovable baby. He is cuddly and sweet. He loves to play with his tennis ball. He is also very well trained. he knows several commands and listens very well. His ideal home will love him bunches and continue the training the finders have started. Brad is super smart and loves to learn, especially when treats are involved. Brad is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is solidly housebroken and crate trained. He is perfect little boy. If you would like to offer Brad a forever home please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. His adoption fee is $175. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-20-00140Val (female)

Boston Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Val URGENTLY needs a foster or forever home, and, sadly, the home cannot have any other dogs. Cats are fine. We know that placing pittie mixes no matter how small and adorable are tough. However, placing pittie mixes who do not like other dogs is nearly impossible. We are BEGGING you to share, share, and share again because we have no suitable foster or forever home for our sweetheart Val. We want to be totally honest about what's going on. Although we have previously posted that Val does well with other animals, it's really no longer the case. It's a little baffling and very disappointing to see a change in her personality towards other ... (Read More)dogs. We have a theory about this. When Val first came to us she was a new mother, very thin, and heartworm positive. Although she didn't appear to be particularly sick, she was probably not feeling her best. At that point she was grateful and easy going. Now that she is perfectly healthy and feeling strong, she has decided she can challenge her canine siblings in her foster home. The situation has become dangerous because we would hate for anyone to get hurt breaking up a scuffle. We consulted a behaviorist who tried to introduce Val to various dogs of different sizes and her reaction made it clear that dogs are no longer welcome in her life. Val is an almost 2-year-old Boston terrier/pit bull mix who only weighs about 40 pounds--every ounce full of personality! Val is very friendly with everyone and loves to meet anyone who will give her love and affection; this includes children! She is super duper snuggly and loves to be with or on her people. We cannot emphasize enough that Val is truly the most amazing and perfect dog as long as she isn't agitated by other dogs. She has never growled, snarled or snapped at anyone, even at the vet's office. Her issue really is only other dogs. Val is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is also housebroken and crate trained. She needs a little leash training, but is already better than when she arrived. She rides well in the car and loves to go visiting new people in their homes. If you would like to meet Val or if you have any questions, please email us at pawswapofgreaterlafayette@aol.com. If you are interested in meeting or adopting please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-07-00120Taz (male)

Chihuahua    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Taz. This guy is so incredibly adorable. His foster mom cannot say enough great things about him. He is a sweet little guy. He is a bit shy, but does warm up quickly and is easy to handle. He isn't nippy or grumpy at all. In fact, he is very sweet and cuddly once he relaxes with new people. We are lucky that we do have old vet records from Taz that put him at 9.5 years old. He currently weighs almost 8 pounds. Of course Taz is good with other dogs, especially those his size. He has always been around other dogs and seems to like having them around. He would also be fine in a home with cats. We think calm, gentle kids would be OK in his ... (Read More)forever home. He isn't overwhelmed by anything in particular, but would probably prefer a calm environment where he gets a lot of attention. Taz is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He recently got a full dental; poor guy only has 6 teeth left. No worries though, Taz could also be called Mr. Piggy at dinner time. Taz is comfortable in the crate. He wears a belly bands in the house since he is working on house training. Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Cisco. This handsome guy with the goofy grin is an 8-year-old long haired chihuahua. Cisco weighs about 8 pounds. Little Cisco was once a terribly shy, nervous dog. After a couple months with his foster he has learned to properly dog and to accept being spoiled. Cisco is still shy and won't always approach his people, but he is very comfortable being near them. In fact, he loves to jump on the couch next to his foster mom; he follows her everywhere. He also loves his dog bed that he 'stole' from his foster siblings. Cisco loves to run in the yard and gets excited for meal times. He also gets excited when asked to go outside. He is ... (Read More)currently fostered with cats and other dogs. He is doing great with everyone. We think other dogs in the home are necessary because he feels most comfortable among his peers. He is never ever bitey or snarly, but older, calmer kids are probably ideal for him. Cisco is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. He has also had a dental although his teeth were much better than his siblings. Cisco is housebroken on a consistent schedule, but wears a belly band when not supervised...just in case. He is wonderful in his crate and enjoys it if he needs a place to go for some peace and quiet. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baxter is an adorable and happy mixed breed guy, maybe border collie, and weighs about 55 pounds. Baxter is about 10 years old as far as we know, but doesn't act a day over 7. This handsome guy is still playful and loves to chase balls. If you're looking for a mature dog who is still active and loves everyone, Baxter might be just the right fit. He does great with kids, cats, and other dogs. His foster home has older dogs and younger dogs, and does well with them all. If you're wondering about the right side of Baxter's face, we don't have all of the answers. He does have some paralysis that appears to be the result of blunt force trauma. ... Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Meet Peaches. We really think just the right picture will make a difference in getting a dog adopted. In all honesty, this is probably not *the* picture for this super duper adorable dog. Peaches is a 4-year-old pittie mix. She is squatty, wrinkly and has a head bigger than the rest of her body--just the way we like it. She is so cute. Peaches was a stray who ended up at IACS (formerly IACC). She was tested with dogs and didn't do well which meant she was deemed "rescue only". Well, not many people are looking for a pittie mix who doesn't like other dogs (or cats) and no rescues came forward. We were hesitant too. A fantastic ... (Read More)foster offered to take Peaches and give her a great temporary home. Of course we couldn't say no. Peaches is so wonderful with people. She is very friendly and loves young and old equally. Like we said above, she does need to be an only pet in the home though. She is a little strong on leash (Easy Walk harness is helpful). Otherwise, she is a well-behaved and a doll to share a home with. Peaches is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is solidly housebroken and quiet in her crate. Minus the aversion to other animals, Peaches is perfection. If you are interested in meeting Peaches, please complete the adoption application in the link below. This is the first step in the adoption process. Be sure to include on the application any questions you have. After we review the applications, we will arrange individual meet and greets. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-19-00131Solana (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Meet Solana. This sweet girl can be added to our list of great saves. She, along with two others, was given a given a deadline at IACC to either find rescue or be put to sleep. As awful as it sounds, sometimes large-intake shelters have to make awful choices when they get bombarded with strays and owner surrenders. When there is no place for the dogs to go, what other choices do they have? We get it and try to help when we can. Solana was definitely worth the save! Solana is a two-year-old pittie mix. She is a compact girl with a lot of strength in her little body. She weighs 45 pounds. We can tell she has something else non-bully in her ... (Read More)mix, but we aren't sure what. Maybe Jack Russell? Anyway, we love Solana and her friendly playful spirit. She is a total sweetheart who makes friends quickly. She was abandoned in her home for several days before she was found. She was scared and very thin. You would never know by her awesome spirit--she is happy, bouncy playful, and always ready for snuggles. Solana loves having a canine companionship. She is deaf and might feel comforted having another dog to read body language and cues about her surroundings. Solana does not do well with cats. We could see Solana in a home with children who are steady on their feet. She get a little bouncy when she's extra excited. Solana is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is housebroken, but not crate trained. Well, she can go into a crate, but absolutely hates it. At her foster home she is confined to one room and does great. She will need more work on commands. It's a little tough because of her deafness. Simply giving a verbal command won't cut it. We are working on hand cues with er and want her forever family to do the same. Please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting if you are interested in meeting Solana. Her adoption fee is $150. (Less)
